Zauschneria california 'Wayne's Select'
Quick Facts
Legend
Description:
10-12” x 20” wide, (cutting propagated). Of our many native western wildflowers, Zauschneria is one of the best sources for “natural nectar.” While our Zauschneria garrettii types like ‘Mountain Flame’ and ‘Orange Carpet’ light up the garden in mid-summer, ‘Wayne’s Select’ extends the hummingbird attracting season by blooming in early fall with dusky scarlet trumpets. Especially valued for its very showy silver foliage, this is a slow-to-spread variety that works well in smaller spaces. Find a hot spot and plant it with white flowered Gaura lindheimeri for an outrageous late season display. Thanks to Bill Adams of Pueblo, CO for introducing me to this fine cultivar. Zones 5-9.
