Our native grasslands contain some of the planet’s most productive and diverse plant populations. These native grasses hold the soil and protect it from erosion, provide habitat for thousands of species of wildflowers and filter the water that recharges our aquifers. On a smaller scale, they enrich our landscapes with their incredible beauty, diversity and toughness. Watch the graceful movement of prairie grasses in the wind and listen to the whisper of the breeze as it moves through them. Marvel at the incredible fall colors of yellow, orange, russet, purple, pink and red. Indeed, native grasses offer us nature at her finest.

The Western Trails native grass seed mix, specially formulated for High Country Gardens, contains 12 of our very best and most beautiful Western native grass species in a carefully formulated blend that will bind and hold the soil. The mix is suitable for a wide variety of soil types in most climates in areas west of the Mississippi, at elevations of 3,000 to 7,500 feet and with rainfall amounts of 10-25” per year. Sow at the rate of 2 lb. of seed mix per 1000 sq. ft. All seed orders come with a seeding instruction sheet.
