Blue Orchard Mason Bee Nest

Description:

Bees Need Homes!
There are more than 3000 species of wild bees in North America but intensive agriculture and development has reduced the diversity of wildflowers and destroyed natural nest sites. You can give them a helping hand, improve pollination in your garden and enjoy creating a natural habitat. Native bees (Orchard Bees) will most likely colonize this nest once you have it in place on your property. This will help increase your local population available to pollinate your plants. These nests will house only the Mason Bees and will not house wasps or bumblebees.

Read How to Bee, by David Salman, and learn about Blue Orchard Mason Bees and the plants that attract them. Be sure to follow the instructions on nest placement and as the Mason Bees emerge from hibernation, they will be happy to fine your nest.

We will be stocking a special supply of bees this winter, and if you would like to order live cocoons next year, they will be shipped to you in January or February of next year. If your temperatures are below zero at that time, just store the cocoons in your refrigerator. They may be placed in the nests once the temperatures have warmed up well above zero, usually February to March.
