"This sedge needed more water to get established than I expected based on the description. I lost one of 10, but the others are recovering and putting up new leaves now that I'm watering more. (3 months in and watering twice a week. Hoping not to have to water as often next year. )"
"Made a beautiful boarder"
"Lovely, fine grass that does well in the shade."
Appalachian Sedge (Carex appalachica) is an outstanding choice for use as an attractive grassy groundcover for shade and heavy shade areas. This native grass-like plant with thin, fine-textured leaf blades. Appalachian Sedge is adaptable to a wide range of soils including clay. It needs only moderate moisture but not wet soil like some Carex species. A clumper, space the plants 10 to 12 inches apart to create a swirling carpet of green. Mow it high in early to mid-spring so it will look its best during the growing season. It can be interplanted with other shade-loving woodland wildflowers and flowering bulbs (Daffodils, Hyacinthoides, Scilla and others).
